Around 3,000 volunteers from organizations across the country took part in the event, organized by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. The programme began at 9:30 a.m. President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir attended as chief guest. Asadul Habib Dulu, Minister for Disaster Management and Relief, and State Minister M. YFB’s founder and chairman, Mohammad Shafi-ul-Alam, also attended the event.

Enzamamul Hoqe Partho leads YFB’s volunteer network of around 14,000 members across Bangladesh, and led the organization’s 120-member contingent at the observance.

The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction is marked every year on Oct. 13 to promote a global culture of risk awareness and disaster reduction. Bangladesh is among the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries and faces recurring floods, cyclones, river erosion and rising salinity. Volunteers play a frontline role in early warning, evacuation, relief distribution and community preparedness.
